Before you rely on this page
- Check the effective date and last update.
- Read the full chapter, not just the heading.
- Use support when the policy does not clearly answer your case.
- 1This policy is between you and Rentino Inc. (“Rentino,” “we,” “us,” “our”).
- 2This Payments & Fees Policy explains how payments, fees, deposit holds, refunds, and payouts work on Rentino (rentino.org). It is part of the Rentino legal documents and should be read together with the Terms of Service and Marketplace Rental Terms. If there is a conflict for a specific transaction, the amounts and labels shown to you at checkout (or in the relevant purchase screen) control for that transaction, except where prohibited by law.
Stripe applies a reserve, rolling delay, or compliance hold,
required verification or banking details are incomplete, or
Rentino needs time to finalize adjustments (refunds, late fees, dispute outcomes).
Who processes payments
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Stripe
Key points and requirements in this section.
Rentino uses Stripe to process:
- 1renter payments (rental price + fees + taxes, where applicable)
- 2deposit authorization holds (security deposits)
- 3refunds
- 4owner payouts
- 5stored payment methods
- 6owner identity verification (KYC) for payout eligibility
- 7Rentino does not store full card numbers. Payment and KYC information is handled by Stripe under Stripe’s policies and agreements.
What you pay on Rentino (charges you may see)
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Rental price (Rental Subtotal)
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
This is the price set by the Owner for the item rental.
Renter Service Fee (Platform fee)
Key points and requirements in this section.
- 1Rentino charges the Renter a service fee for use of the marketplace.
- 2Current default: the greater of 10% of the Rental Subtotal or $3.00 per Booking
- 3The exact service fee is shown at checkout.
Owner Fee (Platform fee)
Key points and requirements in this section.
- 1Rentino charges the Owner an owner fee for facilitating the transaction. This is taken from the Owner’s earnings (deducted from payouts).
- 2Current default: the greater of 5% of the Rental Subtotal or $2.00 per Booking
- 3The exact owner fee is shown in the Booking breakdown and Owner payout breakdown.
Damage Deposit (authorization hold)
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Some bookings include a Deposit shown at checkout. This is typically an authorization hold, not an immediate charge.
Late return charges (if applicable)
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
If an item is returned late, the Platform may charge additional rental amounts and related fees as described in the Marketplace Rental Terms.
Promoted Listing purchases
Key points and requirements in this section.
- 1Owners may purchase paid promotion to increase visibility.
- 2Price is shown as per day (or equivalent) during purchase
- 3Duration is selected by the Owner
- 4Promotion does not guarantee rentals
When charges happen (timing)
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Booking confirmation vs payment
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
A Booking may be confirmed before payment is completed. Confirmation reserves the requested dates/time, but the Booking is not considered paid until the Renter completes checkout by paying from their profile (including adding or selecting a payment method).
How the Renter pays
Key points and requirements in this section.
To complete payment, the Renter must go to their profile (or the payment screen linked from the Booking) and:
- 1enter card details or select a saved payment method (processed by Stripe), and
- 2approve the payment amount shown.
When the rental charge occurs
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Rentino charges the Renter’s payment method only when the Renter completes payment for the Booking. If payment is not completed within the time allowed by the Platform, the Booking may be canceled.
Deposit authorization hold timing
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
If the Booking remains active, the Deposit authorization hold is placed on the Pickup Day (the booking start day), as described in the Marketplace Rental Terms.
Deposit release timing
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
If no dispute is opened, the deposit hold becomes eligible for release after the end date/time of the Booking plus the 24-hour dispute window. Bank/card networks may take additional time to reflect the release.
Promotion charges
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Promotion purchases are charged at the time of purchase.
Taxes (GST/HST and others)
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
When taxes apply
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Taxes may apply depending on legal requirements and Rentino’s registration status. If Rentino is required to charge GST/HST (or other applicable taxes), taxes will be calculated and displayed at checkout or purchase.
What taxes may apply to
Key points and requirements in this section.
Taxes may apply to:
- 1Platform fees (Service Fee and/or Owner Fee)
- 2Promotion purchases
- 3other fees or charges where legally required
- 4The platform will show taxes in the checkout breakdown when applicable.
- 5When GST applies, it is calculated on the Service Fee and Owner Fee amounts actually charged for the Booking (including minimum-fee outcomes).
- 6Some Owners may also elect to charge GST on the Rental Subtotal for their own rentals when they are GST/HST registered. When enabled, that Owner-collected GST is included in the renter's total at checkout, shown on receipts, and passed through to the Owner rather than retained by Rentino.
Tax invoices/receipts
Key points and requirements in this section.
- 1Receipts are provided electronically (email and/or in-app). They may show rental amounts, fees, and taxes separately, including a single GST total that may combine platform GST and Owner-collected GST.
- 2Owners who enable GST collection remain solely responsible for filing and remitting their own GST/HST amounts to the CRA or other applicable tax authority.
Refunds and fee rules
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
General refund approach
Key points and requirements in this section.
Refund eligibility and refund amounts depend on:
- 1who canceled (Renter or Owner)
- 2when the cancellation happened
- 3whether pickup occurred
- 4deposit authorization outcome
- 5dispute outcomes and late return charges
- 6These rules are defined in the Marketplace Rental Terms and shown at checkout.
Platform fees are generally non-refundable
Key points and requirements in this section.
- 1Renter Service Fee: non-refundable (kept by Rentino), except where required by law or where Rentino decides otherwise.
- 2Owner Fee: refunded/voided in accordance with the Marketplace Rental Terms and your platform rules (for example, refunded when rental amounts are refunded in full).
Owner cancellation
Key points and requirements in this section.
If the Owner cancels after payment but before pickup:
- 1the Renter receives a refund of rental price + service fee + deposit (if applicable)
- 2the Owner receives no payout
- 3Rentino may apply account enforcement
Renter cancellation outcomes (summary)
Key points and requirements in this section.
The platform shows your exact cancellation outcomes at the time of booking. In general, Rentino may:
- 1refund some or all of the rental price depending on timing
- 2keep service fees per policy
- 3adjust owner fees based on amounts paid out to the Owner
- 4See Marketplace Rental Terms for the full rules.
Promotions are non-refundable
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Promoted Listing purchases are non-refundable once purchased, except where required by law or if Rentino cannot provide the promotion due to our error.
Deposit holds and what happens if a deposit hold fails
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Deposit is typically a hold, not a charge
Key points and requirements in this section.
- 1A deposit is usually an authorization hold. It may be captured only if permitted by the Marketplace Rental Terms (damage/not returned/approved claims).
- 2The maximum amount an Owner can receive through the Platform for damage, theft, missing parts/accessories, or “not returned” outcomes is up to the Booking’s deposit amount shown at checkout.
Failed deposit authorization (2 attempts)
Key points and requirements in this section.
If the deposit authorization hold fails on Pickup Day:
- 1First attempt is at approximately 7:00 a.m. local time. If it fails, Rentino will retry at approximately 9:00 a.m. local time (about 2 hours later).
- 2if it fails again, the Booking may be canceled and the deposit-failure cancellation outcome applies (as described in the Marketplace Rental Terms)
Owner payouts — Updated
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Payout eligibility (KYC required)
Key points and requirements in this section.
Owners must complete identity verification (KYC) via Stripe before:
- 1listing is enabled, and
- 2payouts are allowed.
When owner earnings become available
Key points and requirements in this section.
Owner earnings from a Booking become eligible for payout only after both of the following conditions are met:
- 1Booking completion + dispute window: the Booking has ended and the 24-hour dispute window has passed without an unresolved dispute; and
- 2Funds availability on Stripe: the related payment funds have settled and become “available” in the Owner’s Stripe Connect balance (typically 5–7 days, depending on Stripe and the payment method).
- 3Until both conditions are met, the funds are not available for payout, and any payout (including instant payout) for that Booking’s earnings will not be possible.
Payout timing and holds
Key points and requirements in this section.
- 1Standard payout schedule. Rentino initiates standard payouts bi-weekly on every second Monday at approximately 3:00 a.m. local time for the Owner’s available balance (not total/pending). Regular payouts may take up to 4 business days to settle in the Owner’s bank, and the first payout may take 7-14 business days.
- 2Even after funds are marked available, payouts may be delayed or held if:
- 3there is an active dispute, chargeback, or fraud investigation,
Deductions and adjustments
Key points and requirements in this section.
Owner payouts may be reduced or adjusted for:
- 1the Owner Fee,
- 2refunds (full or partial),
- 3dispute outcomes (including deposit-related allocations where applicable),
- 4chargebacks, reversals, or payment failures,
- 5amounts owed to Rentino under platform rules.
Instant payout (optional)
Key points and requirements in this section.
If instant payout is available and selected:
- 1an additional 3% instant payout fee may apply (shown before confirmation), and
- 2instant payouts are only possible when the Booking’s funds are already available in the Owner’s Stripe Connect account (see Section 7.2).
- 3After the first payout, instant payouts for available funds typically settle within about 30 minutes. Instant payouts may still be delayed, reversed, or recovered where permitted due to disputes, fraud, chargebacks, or Stripe restrictions.
Chargebacks, payment reversals, and fraud
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Chargebacks
Key points and requirements in this section.
If a Renter files a chargeback or the payment is reversed:
- 1Rentino may pause payouts, place holds, or debit future payouts during investigation
- 2Owners may be required to provide evidence (messages, photos, receipts, timing)
- 3Rentino may reallocate funds based on outcome (including recovering funds from the Owner where legally permitted)
Fraud prevention
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Rentino may block, delay, or reverse transactions to prevent fraud or protect users. We may require additional verification steps.
Disputes and payment adjustments
Key points and requirements in this section.
If a dispute is opened within the dispute window:
- 1deposit release may be delayed
- 2payouts and refunds may be paused
- 3final amounts may be adjusted based on the dispute outcome
- 4evidence deadlines apply as stated in the Marketplace Rental Terms
Pricing changes
Context and explanation for this part of the policy.
Rentino may change fees, pricing, and rules from time to time. Changes apply to future transactions and will be shown at checkout/purchase.
